The Xperia X10 launched via AT&T

The all new Android phone from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia X10, has been released via AT&T in the United States. The Xperia X10 boasts a 4.0″ TFT capacitive touchscreen, which has been the center of much criticism from many for being overtly large, even larger than an iPhone’s. But on the other hand many have welcomed the larger screen size saying that it would make writing texts and emails easier. This is Sony Ericsson’s first foray in the Android phone market.

The phone is well built and has many subtle but elegant styling features like the well arrayed keys at the bottom of the screen. The X10 features a 1 GHz SnapDragon processor, 384 MB RAM, 1 GB internal memory, you also get WiFi (802.11 b/g), HSDPA (7.2Mbps), HSUPA (3.6 Mbps), Bluetooth 2.1 (with A2DP), AGPS and microUSB. The built in accelerometer and digital compass are seemly. It has a pretty decent eight megapixel camera with autofocus, 16x digital zoom, image stabilization, face detection, geotagging, touch focus and LED flash.

In reality it is even comparable to the Google nexus one, apart from the 512 Mb ram and the multi-touch of the Nexus one. The phone carries a price tag of $149.99 with a 2 year AT&T contract. The first problems that you notice are the rather jerky performance and the failure of the text input to display the input via the touchscreen.

Sony Ericsson has also incorporated two new features into the Xperia X10, Timescape and Mediascape. Timescape puts together all your tweets, texts and emails in an interesting 3D chronology. While Mediascape shows all the music, pictures, videos and photos from online photo sharing sites, like Facebook & Picassa, on your cell phone. Both are pretty nifty features but aren’t much to talk about once you’ve gotten over the fanciness of the phone. Also downloading new apps from the Android store is pretty simple too. All in all the Xperia X10 is a pretty good Android phone for all you people looking to switch to Android.

Pro’s: Large 4” touchscreen , 8.1 megapixel camera with face detection and image stabilization, good build quality .

Cons: No multi touch option, large size.
